19 Local Chapters

Membership in a local chapter is an automatic benefit of joining the FSMTA. Chapter membership provides you access to local
leadership, newsletter, local meetings, involvement in community activities, low cost or free CEU programs, and networking with other
professionals in your area. The 19th chapter was formed in 2001 and we have plans to continue growing each year.

Optional Professional Liability, Property, & Casualty Insurance

The FSMTA offers one of the best and lowest cost liability insurance plans in the profession. For about the cost of giving two
massages, you can purchase the coverage you need. There are two policies available (descriptions are listed on the insurance page).
This enables our members to customize an insurance plan that meets their needs rather than be limited to a standard policy.

Legislative Consultants in Tallahassee

The FSMTA maintains a strong presence in Tallahassee to protect the rights of the massage therapist. We promote and initiate
legislative platforms to improve the status of massage, our right to practice, and our right to be part of the Health Care Delivery
System. We have lobbyists, an attorney on retainer, a legislative committee, and a legislative chairperson- all who work on YOUR
behalf to make sure that the legislature is aware of the concerns of the therapist. Some of our legislative achievements are:

Legal designation changed from Masseur/Masseuse to Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).

Changing Insurance Law enabled LMTs to bill health insurance for Rx services (a national precedent).

Maintaining exemption from Florida sales tax for all massage therapy services.

Changing the terminology in the definition of massage from manipulation of “superficial tissue” to “SOFT TISSUE.”

Legislative Awareness Days

Additionally, the FSMTA puts on a yearly event called Legislative Awareness Days, during which therapists in the Association travel to
Tallahassee to perform massage on the Legislators and their staff. This event helps promote massage therapy and awareness to the
Legislators while keeping everyone informed of any legislative issues affecting our profession.

Annual Convention in Florida

Each year in Florida, the FSMTA holds the largest attended massage therapy convention and trade show in the country. The
Convention gives the attendees the opportunity to obtain their required CEUs, meet with vendors and suppliers, and have a great time.
Enhance your practice with new ideas and earn CEUs by attending presentations with the great leaders in our field. Visit over 100
exhibits of professional services and products to massage therapists and build camaraderie with fellow massage therapists during
our fun-filled parties. As an FSMTA member, you will receive a substantial discount on your registration fees. For details on this year's
Convention, please see our Annual Convention page.

Subscription to Massage Message Magazine and Chapter Newsletters

The Massage Message Magazine and your local chapter’s newsletter will keep you informed of local events and statewide matters,
as well as educating you on new subjects and issues. To view some articles from our most recent publication, please see our
Massage Message page.

FSMTA Sports Massage Team

The purpose of the Sports Massage Team is to provide consistent, effective, and efficient sports massage to competitors at sporting
events. Sports massage has been increasingly popular as more and more people experience the results first hand. Participation in
the FSMTA Sports Massage Team is an excellent source for recruiting potential clients.

Promotional & Professional Practice Products

From clothing, key chains and bumper stickers to educational videos, brochures and posters, the FSMTA has a variety of products to
promote massage therapy and your practice. Our products can be ordered by either calling the Central Office toll free at (877) 376-
8248 or by viewing our Promotional Products page.

Massage Therapy Awareness Week

Every year during the week designated by the Governor, the
FSMTA holds awareness programs around the state, to make
the public more aware and knowledgeable about massage and
the benefits it brings to everyone it touches.

Representation at Board of Massage Therapy meetings

Get first-hand information on any new “hot issues” affecting the massage therapy industry. With our BOMT Liaison, the FSMTA is
represented at each quarterly meeting and reports directly to the FSMTA Board of Directors. In addition, the Board Beat, which is a
comprehensive report on each BOMT quarterly meeting, is published in the Massage Message.

FSMTA Website

This is the newest member benefit, which brings high-tech to our high-touch profession. Log onto www.fsmta.org and find out about
our Board of Directors, Chapter happenings, upcoming FSMTA events, sign up for membership and/or insurance, register for the
Convention, and so much more.

Membership Certificate and Card and use of FSMTA logo

Displaying your membership certificate or card and using the FSMTA logo on your personal and office stationary, cards, brochures,
etc. identifies you as a professional massage therapist.
